A light snowfall covers the grounds at Independence Hall (Philadelphia, PA) |
| The winter season was outstanding for its persistent cold and wind. Although there were a few mild periods interspersed with the cold, the winter stood out as the coldest in New Jersey (and most of the Northeast) in ten years.
Snowfall, however, remained below normal (for yet another winter season) for most of the I-95 corridor. Boston averaged 21" below normal, New York City averaged 17" below normal, and Philadelphia averaged 15" below normal. Conversely, Washington, DC averaged 2" above normal as several southern storms traversed the area from the Nation's Capital to the Jersey Shore.
